Harvesting Crops: As we reach the peak of the growing season, we will glean on a more regular basis. We intend to glean nearly every Saturday morning between July 6th through November 2nd. We are almost always done by noon. Gleaning is fun for the whole family and can be a nice way to show your children where their food is grown. However, it can be unpredictable since we depend upon the schedule of farmers, the weather, and crop availability.
As opportunities become available, we will add them to our volunteer calendar. Please check it frequently as there can be lots of changes!

Music & a Movie at Penrose Square:

CPRO is hosting 3rd Thursdays at Penrose Square. This week, June 20th, The Goodfellas, a Beatles cover band, is performing followed by the movie Mary Poppins. We need 2 volunteers at the AFAC Info Table from 6:30-9:30pm. If you can help, please emailvolunteer4afac@afac.org.

Help pick-up food donations: Ride with a volunteer driver to pick-up donations from farmers’ markets and Trader Joe’s at one or more of the following times:
  • Friday, July 5, 9:30-11pm
  • Tuesday evenings every other week starting July 16, 9:30-10:30pm

More information is on our website.

Volunteers Needed to Stamp Out Hunger!

Stamp Out Hunger on May 11 is AFAC’s 2nd largest one-day food drive each year. To help make it as successful as possible, we need to reach out to as many Arlingtonians as we can.

Here’s how you can help:

1) Post Signs: If you live on a busy street, come to AFAC before May 5 and pick up a yard sign to place in your yard. We’d like the signs returned the week after the drive.

2) Post Flyers in Apartments: If you live in an apartment/condo building or town home community where mailboxes are “communal,” please post a flyer in a common place (ideally, where people retrieve their mail) and put up a collection box so that the letter carrier can collect the food easily.
3) Deliver Flyers May 5-10: Lastly, we are still looking for volunteers to deliver flyers door-to-door the week of May 5-10. It takes about an hour walking outside to cover approximately 100 homes. You would need to come to AFAC headquarters to gather up supplies. Great activity for families and students.

If you can help with any of these efforts, please contact us at volunteer4afac@afac.org.
