Just in time for the holidays! An Arlington family’s new Italian cookbook – with the proceeds benefiting AFAC .  The family of one of AFAC’s volunteers, Marilena Amoni, has just created an impressive Southern Italian cookbook, A Mangia (Let’s Eat). It’s a tribute to her father, who owned two Italian restaurants and a famous catering establishment that served tens of thousands of guests on Long Island. The cookbook includes more than 80 traditional recipes from the Italian countryside.  But what makes this cookbook special is the family secrets and timesaving tips it shares about “Grandma’s Cooking System.” Order copies online for $14.95 plus shipping and handling. Allow 8-10 days for printing and delivery. Proceeds will go to AFAC and the American Cancer Society.

Food Donations Soar

Thanks in part to another great Boy Scout Food Drive, November was a banner month for food donations. A total of 195,550 lbs were collected from local grocery stores, schools, businesses and congregations. The Boy Scout Food Drive was a record all by itself, bringing in 60,823 lbs compared to last year’s 54,940. And the Washington & Lee Marching Band delivered 212 cases (9,985 lbs!) of fresh oranges donated to AFAC during their annual Citrus Sale. December’s food donations continue to fill our warehouse.

Student Avery Bailey collected 1341 lbs of food donations for his Boy Scout Eagle Project.  Yorktown High School National Honor Society held a neighborhood food drive – dropping off notices and walking through the neighborhood collecting food donations.
