Thank You

The Permanent Home Campaign Committee extends its most sincere thanks to all who attended the benefit reception fundraiser on Tuesday. What a great night it was for AFAC! Next week we’ll let you know how much you helped to raise for the Campaign, post photos from the event and more! In the meantime, if you have questions about the Permanent Home Campaign and how we’re doing, please contact Beth Johnson at beth.johnson@afac.org.

Thanks to the Old Dominion Neighborhood Day and Yard Sale for their donations last weekend and to Swanson Middle School: we received a whopping 1,421 pounds from their year-end cereal and peanut butter drive.

Volunteer Opportunities

Handyman? One of our bathrooms needs a makeover. If you have experience laying sheet vinyl and painting, we can use your help with this project. Email Puwen.

Seeking volunteers for a weekly grocery distribution.
In July, AFAC will begin distributing groceries at a retirement community in south Arlington. We need one more volunteer to help Monday mornings from 10:30am-12:30pm. 6-month commitment. Email Puwen Lee if you are interested.

Summer Teen Program Orientations: June 14th and June 17th, 4:30pm
From 9:30am – 12:30pm each weekday during the summer, teens age 14 and older volunteer in AFAC’s warehouse and office. Teens may sign up to volunteer one or two mornings per week. We are very flexible so you can fit your volunteering in around camps and vacations. Read more about the program and orientation dates by clicking here. For more information on registering for the program or attending orientation, email Laura Jackson at laura.jackson@afac.org.

Summer Time and the Living is Easy, but AFAC still needs food donations.
Does your family belong to a swim club or a sports team? Consider holding a food drive, bake sale, lemonade stand, or ice cream event for AFAC. The AFAC website has some ideas for how your club or neighborhood, or a group of kids, can have fun while making a difference in the lives of others.

Summer Vegetables are coming in — join AFAC’s Plot Against Hunger Project:

Join a gleaning group and pick crops at local farms and orchards. Contact Susan Calligari, AFAC’s Gleaning Coordinator at masoncal@mac.com.
Produce handlers are needed Saturday (12:30-2:30pm) and Sunday afternoons (1:30-3:30pm) throughout the summer. Contact Puwen for information.

Volunteers are needed at 7:30am to help with registration and t-shirt distribution, hand out water on the trail, and cheer on runners. We are also looking for a volunteer to lead a group warm-up before the race. The volunteers should be done by 10:30/11am. Please contact run4afac@aol.com if you can help out!
